The 30-year-old singer will join the likes of Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Coldplay, Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers to perform at the most watched music event of the year when she takes to the stage at the 51st Super Bowl at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, on February 5 2017.

Gaga kicked off the annual NFL event this year singing the American National Anthem, and said it was a career personal “highlight”.

She said: “This is one of the highest honours of my career. I get a chance to sing for all the athletes – who have been working so hard their whole lives for this moment – the coaches, as well as the fans
in the stands who are waiting for this moment. I think it marks what being an American is all about.”

Super Bowl headline acts are commonly joined by fellow music stars to share the limelight and it’s not yet known if Gaga has anyone in mind.

However, one person who can be ruled out is British songstress Adele, who it was previously claimed was highly sought after to perform. The Hello hitmaker flatly refused the initial offer, saying the show – which draws 100 million viewers each year – is not about music.

Speaking during her concert in Los Angeles in August, she said: “First of all, I’m not doing the Super Bowl. I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really – I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I said no.”
