A wine bar, restaurant and shop championing women in the wine industry is opening on Maiden Lane come mid July.

The Covent Garden venue – aptly named Lady of the Grapes – will feature biodynamic and natural wines made by female winemakers.

More than half of the names on the carefully curated wine list will be female in the spirit of supporting women in the industry, which is an an issue close to owner Carole Byron.

Byron said, “When I first started in the industry I realised there were not a lot of women so I want to support all women in wine from the vineyard to the shop.

“I want to champion women in the wine trade and make them more visible through our wine list, because it’s not just men who make wine.”

The organic theme will stretch to the food menu too, which has been designed by chef and restaurateur Victor Garvey, best known for Soho’s Rambla and Covent Garden's Sibarita. Garvey is a close supporter of the project, which is opening in the site which previously housed his first solo restaurant Encant.

Guests can feast on sharing boards or simple dishes made with seasonal, local produce – all of which have been created to compliment the venue's wine list. A selection of wine, cheese and charcuterie will also be available to take away in the deli section.

The bar has also launched a crowdfunding page to support the new venture, which can be found here.
