'American Idol' winner Laine Hardy is aiding hurricane relief efforts with a birthday benefit concert

Laine Hardy is celebrating turning 21 by performing for a good cause.

The American Idol alum, who won the singing competition in 2019, is performing a benefit concert — to be live streamed for a global audience — from the New Orleans Jazz Museum on Sunday, September 12. The Louisiana native is charging $15 to “attend” the digital event, where he will perform songs from his upcoming debut album Here’s to Anyone, which drops on September 17. The proceeds for the show will go towards recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Ida.

In August, Hardy took to Instagram to share what it was like to play at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville — a major career milestone for any country artist — as Hurricane Ida was heading towards Louisiana.

“Making my @opry debut as Hurricane Ida was headed for my home state this past Saturday sure was a bittersweet moment,” he captioned a photo of him on stage. “I am so grateful my family and our property were spared, and also so grateful for the incredible honor to stand inside that Circle. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this happen.”

While Hardy played one of the biggest stages in country music, the artist is used to perform for fans at home.

Last year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, he went on a virtual tour. He told People of the experience in April 2020, "It's definitely different than being on the road. It's a great way to connect with my fans. I'm really happy to be able to connect with them in that way. It's really different. I've never done it before. Right when I first started, it was weird. It's getting better and better."
