Lambeth stabbing: Police hunt for killer after 23-year-old stabbed to death in London

Police have launched a murder investigation after a 23-year-old man was stabbed to death in south London.

Officers were called to the incident in Minet Road, Loughborough Junction – close to Brixton – at 6.45pm on Thursday.

The victim was given first aid and London's air ambulance was dispatched but he died at the scene.

His identity has not been made public but his next of kin have been informed.

No arrests have yet been made after the stabbing at or close to the Marcus Lipton youth club.

"A number of detailed forensic and CCTV footage related enquiries are in hand and police are appealing for information," a police statement said.

"Detectives are particularly keen to hear from those who were at the youth club - which was open at the time of the attack."

A heavy police presence was in place overnight and the road remained closed on Friday morning.

It comes after an 18-year-old was fatally stabbed on the same road last summer.

Fatally-wounded Latwaan Griffiths managed to flee and was later found just half a mile away in nearby Denmark Road, Camberwell, with serious knife wounds.

Detectives in that case believe the teenager was dumped in the street by a moped and released an image of a moped rider they wished to identify.

Eyewitnesses said at the time they believed the moped rider was trying to take Mr Griffiths to hospital for help.

Homicides in the capital hit a 10-year high last year when 134 people were killed.

It was London’s highest homicide total since 2008, which saw 154 people killed, and a 15 per cent rise year-on-year.

Metropolitan Police figures revealed a fifth of victims were children and teenagers.

The capital’s murder rate even briefly overtook that of New York in April.

Witnesses or anyone with information linked to Thursday’s stabbing in Minet Road are urged to call police on 101 referencing 6141.
