A Land Rover smashed into two parked cars this evening, prompting a large police response.

The incident happened at around 8pm on Bedford Road in Bootle, at the junction with Stanley Road. According to neighbours, there were several police cars at the scene, as well as a "police helicopter" overhead.

Merseyside Police have confirmed there were no injuries sustained during the incident, but that two people were arrested at the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing the crash unfurl in a "matter of seconds". One neighbour said: "it all happened so fast. I heard a car driving very fast down the street. Then I heard a loud braking noise. I thought to myself, there's going to be an accident. Then the next second, there was a loud crash."

The neighbour suggested the Land Rover may have been stolen, but this has not been confirmed by Merseyside Police.

As the neighbour ran outside, he claims he saw "police chasing the car, running very fast towards it". He added: "It was very scary. They (the occupants of the car) are not even thinking about the consequences. I don't know why people behave like this."

According to witnesses, police "swarmed" on the scene within "30 seconds". The neighbour added: "They were so fast. There was a helicopter overhead too."
