It might look like something from a disaster movie - but this is the incredible aftermath of a landslide that tore up a road in California, leaving the tarmac more than 15 foot in the air.

The Vasquez Canyon Road has since been indefinitely closed while repairs take place, but it is located in a region that is particularly prone to landslides.

Paul Funk, of the L.A. Department for Public Works, described how the landslide shifted ‘the mountain itself’, warping the road out of shape.

He added that the surface would be out of use for ‘a long time’, perhaps unsurprisingly.
