Large Crowd Gathers for Solstice Sunrise at Stonehenge for First Time Since Pandemic Started

Hundreds of observers gathered at Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England, on Wednesday, December 22, to mark the winter solstice.

This footage, posted to Twitter by stonemason and author Andrew Ziminski, shows the sun slowly rising through the iconic stone configuration while music fills the air in the early hours of Wednesday. “The most incredible solstice sunrise at Stonehenge this morning,” the post read.

According to the BBC, it was the first time since lockdown began in March 2020 that open access was allowed at the World Heritage Site, which is managed by the charity English Heritage.
