Large Hailstones Pound Western North Carolina Amid Tornado Warnings
Severe storms brought large hailstones to portions of western North Carolina – as well as northeastern Georgia and upstate South Carolina – on Friday, May 6, amid multiple tornado warnings in the region.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a hazardous weather warning for the area through Friday night, and forecast widespread showers and thunderstorms. Damaging straight-line winds and hail could be possible alongside the tornado threat, the NWS said.
The NWS reported golfball-sized hail in the vicinities of Gastonia, Lincolnton, and South Carolina’s Lake Wylie.
