Large police cordon outside Decathlon after assault
A large police cordon is in place on a busy city centre street following an assault. Forensics could be seen examining the crime scene on Church Street this morning, Saturday September 7.
At around 7.20am emergency services were called to the junction of Church Street and Lord Street after a man had been assaulted. The victim, in his 30s, sustained injuries to his lower back and received medical treatment from ambulance crews at the scene.
A cordon is currently in place outside Decathlon on Church Street. However, no shops appear to be closed due to the incident. One member of staff told the ECHO: "When I came into work at 8.30am, there were police everywhere."

Detectives are appealing for information following the assault. An investigation is underway including witness, CCTV and forensic enquiries which are being carried out. Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 181 of 7 September.
