A giant rodent has vanished from a Midlands zoo, prompting an appeal for public assistance in locating it. Cinnamon, a capybara, disappeared from Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World in Hadley, north of Telford.

Cinnamon, the world's largest rodent species, was last seen in her Shropshire habitat on Friday, September 14. It is believed she ventured into the zoo's woodland area before escaping beyond the perimeter fence on Saturday, where she was spotted on a nearby road.

Hoo Zoo is now appealing for public help to locate 'our beloved Capybara, Cinnamon', with no further sightings reported since Saturday evening. The zoo confirmed that teams have been 'working around-the-clock to locate her'.

In a Facebook post, the zoo stated: "It is likely that Cinnamon is in the vicinity of the zoo, The Humbers and surrounding fields where there is ample food and plenty of ponds."

The zoo also informed that they have reported the escape to the council as per their zoo licence conditions. They urged anyone who spots the animal to contact the zoo directly on 01952 677 917 or 07908 726 240 if between the hours of 5pm and 9am, asking not to report sightings on Facebook as they may be missed, reports Birmingham Live.

The establishment issued a caution regarding Cinnamon, urging the public not to approach her. They advised: "Under no circumstances should a member of the public try to capture the animal by themselves. Although Capybara are generally friendly and inquisitive animals, the animal should not be approached as it could become unpredictable if alarmed or cornered.

They added optimistically about the capybara's return, "Cinnamon has a fantastic bond with her keepers and it is likely she can be encouraged back to her habitat with no physical intervention. Please wish us all the very best for the safe and swift return of Cinnamon. We appreciate all your support in finding her."
