Summer officially ended more than three weeks ago but autumn has different ideas this week, it seems.

Conditions in the northern Lincolnshire area are forecast to be much milder than of late, with temperatures set to climb to a possible high of 21C by midweek around Grimsby. The Met Office has said to expect highs of around 17C on Tuesday, October 15, with an overcast day in sight.

On Wednesday, October 16, the mercury will rise to 19C with a maximum of 21C possible – more like a pleasant summer’s day. The Met Office’s Alex Deakin said: “It will be mild; those temperatures above average for the time of year, getting into the mid-teens, maybe the high teens, if we do see some of that sunshine coming through.

“It looks like the weather fronts will win out and bring some heavier rain for a time on Wednesday, but still pretty warm. Then more weather fronts bringing fresher conditions as we head towards the weekend and potentially some strong winds too.”

The Grimsby area's warmest day of the week will not be accompanied by baking sunshine, but the rays may peep through. Wednesday is set to be cloudy, changing to sunny intervals by lunchtime.

Thursday is expected to be a sunny day, though, with a possible high of 19C on the cards. Perhaps the short sleeves will be in evidence at least one more time before we return to more of an autumnal norm.

The end of the week will continue in a similar vein, with Friday earmarked for sunny intervals, changing to partly cloudy by early evening. The highest possible temperature could be 18C, before things dip away slightly for the start of the weekend.

It is a similar picture around the Scunthorpe region, with a potential high of 16C on Tuesday and overcast, changing to sunny intervals; a possible 20C on Wednesday, with light rain first thing; sunny with a possible high of 19C on Thursday, and Friday starting with sunny intervals and temperatures between 16C and 17C at their highest.

While we recently experienced the first sharp frost of the season, this is a pattern that will not be repeating itself soon. Overnight temperatures are set to fall no lower than 5C anywhere in the region during the week, so there will be no early morning scraping of windscreens again just yet.
