There's no Star Wars without Princess Leia, so it's no surprise that the late Carrie Fisher was a part of proceedings at last night's world premiere of The Last Jedi in Los Angeles.

Speaking ahead of the film's screening, director Rian Johnson dedicated the whole night to Carrie, who'll be making her final appearance as General Leia Organa in the film.

"I want to dedicate tonight to Carrie, who is up there right now flipping me the bird, saying 'Damn it Rian, don't you dare make this night a solemn tribute,'" Johnson said (via The Guardian).

"So let's all have a blast tonight for Carrie."

Rian also paid tribute to the actress on the red carpet too, saying: "Once the audience sees her performance in this movie, she's going to be there in all our hearts.

"It's bizarre not having her here tonight. She would be the life of the party."

Following the film's premiere, the first reactions to The Last Jedi started being shared on social media and it looks like the film is shaping up to be one of the good ones.

One fan also shared the news that the film itself is dedicated to Carrie too, writing that The Last Jedi ends with a message paying tribute to "Our Princess Carrie Fisher".

The Last Jedi's premiere was held at the Shrine auditorium in Los Angeles on Saturday (December 9) and saw the film's cast dressed up to the nines to celebrate the film's much-anticipated opening.

From Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill to BB-8 and evil counterpart BB-9E, all the film's stars and icons were there to support the film – including John Boyega, who had a bit of a trickier time getting there than most.

Thanks to snow in Atlanta, John spent most of yesterday live-tweeting his progress as he raced to make it to the premiere in time, prompting helpful replies from his followers and cast-mates, like asking Harrison Ford to kindly please fly him to Los Angeles...

... Only for Hamill to reply that it's best to leave Harrison's piloting skills to the green screen.

Still, John made it to the premiere in time after all – and there are pictures to prove it:
