Update: Now we've got our first look at Laura Dern's Vice Admiral Holdo, too.

Check out that purple do. Those Resistance leaders have style.

Original story: You don't need us to tell you about the strict secrecy surrounding Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and that has been particularly true of its new main characters played by Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro and Kelly Marie Tran.

Well, we finally know who Dern is playing in the movie.

Vanity Fair's new Last Jedi feature reveals that the Jurassic Park star is playing "a prominent officer in the Resistance named Vice Admiral Holdo", giving us the first solid pieces of information about her heretofore mysterious role.

Meanwhile, Del Toro is playing a "shady character of unclear allegiances". We still don't know his name, but they've apparently given him the nickname 'DJ'. "You'll see – there's a reason why we call him DJ," director Rian Johnson said.

DJ? Could that be 'Darth J–' perhaps? Who knows?

The article also gives us a bit more information about what Tran's character Rose will be up to: "Her plotline involves a mission behind enemy lines with John Boyega's Finn."

Dern will next be seen reuniting with David Lynch in his recently launched third season of Twin Peaks.

Boyega, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis and Gwendoline Christie will all be returning for the follow-up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released on December 15.
