Mama mia: the raw fish bar at Veneta

Mother's Day is marked yearly by a chorus of expletives uttered by forgetful offspring and a spike in hastily scrambled together Moonpig cards. But not from you, because you knew it was this Sunday and you booked a restaurant or a spa day months ago. But in case you didn’t, here are a few of London’s choicest motherly activities.

Hoppers, the Sri Lankan restaurant in Soho, has a six-course “Amma’s Feast” with a menu of exclusive recipes contributed by the Ammas (mothers) of the Hoppers team.

At Bubbledogs in Fitzrovia, the Mama Chang dog is being rolled out, inspired by a Taiwanese beef noodle soup, while at Salt Yard’s London spots, all mothers will be given a complimentary glass of fizz. It goes well with the raw fish bar at Veneta.

For a more traditional feel, Thomas's Café at Burberry hosts an afternoon tea, £32, with a complimentary glass of rosé. At Grind, the coffee shop with outposts in London Bridge, Clerkenwell, Exmouth and Covent Garden, complimentary prosecco comes with your brunch order.

Still looking for a glass to raise? At Foley’s in Fitzrovia, guests will be greeted with a La View En Rose gin-based cocktail before tucking in to the £45 per head three-course menu.

At Joe Allen in Covent Garden, the first 40 mums dining after 6pm eat for free as a nod to the restaurant’s 40th birthday this year. If you’re not one of them, don’t worry, all mums get a bunch of daffodils, a free drink and the restaurant’s resident pianist, Gilly Bean, will play any requests.

At Mercante in Mayfair, a Festa Della Mamma features cakes for mothers who are present and free phone calls to those who aren’t. Mum’s the word — and don’t you forget it.
