The Last of Us Part 2 didn't make an appearance at this year's E3, but work on the sequel is continuing within the walls of developer Naughty Dog. The latest, wholly surprising contributor to the post-apocalyptic project: a big old hog.

As spotted by Gamespot, yesterday the game's director Neil Druckmann and writer Halley Gross, tweeted an image and video from a mo-cap session, featuring a cute-looking (and as of yet unnamed) pig.

Neither of the tweets mention The Last of Us Part 2 directly, but it seems highly unlikely the mo-cap is in aid of another project.

"Today's mocap session is off to a great start", reads Druckmann's tweet.

The video posted by Gross shows the pig wearing some kind of harness, presumably a piece of mo-cap equipment. Naughty Dog's motion capture technology is second to none, but who knew it even recorded its non-human performances?

Before working on The Last of Us Part 2, Gross was a writer on Westworld season one, but she's not the only talent from the hit HBO show contributing to Ellie and Joel's next outing. Shannon Woodward, who played Elsie Hughes, is also joining the cast.

Right now, Naughty Dog is focused on promoting and polishing Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which hits shelves on August 22.

It's unclear when the studio will be ready to give us our first glimpse of The Last of Us Part 2.

However, Druckmann recently tweeted: "Believe me, we're super excited to show you more of Ellie and Joel's 2nd journey, but right now it's Chloe and Nadine's time to shine."
