A bid to build two houses on a vacant west end bowling green and tennis club has been turned down after residents lodged 60 objections.

People were worried about the loss of green space at the Anniesland bowling club on Helensburgh Drive among other concerns.

The semi detached homes were refused by Glasgow City Council for a number of reasons including that the development would result in the loss of protected open space in Jordanhill.

Victoria Park councillor Eunis Jassemi, Labour, said: "I welcome the decision to refuse this application, which failed to address the legitimate concerns raised by residents.

"Despite previous attempts, the applicant had failed to respond to residents’ concerns.

"This outcome is a positive step in ensuring that future developments prioritise the needs of the community. The matter has been well and truly settled."

The decision to turn down Mr Blanche's planning application for two semi detached homes was issued last week.

There were previous plans to build a care home on the site, which was also rejected by the council.
