Laura Dern isn't telling ANYONE who she's playing in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, not even her kids.

She's been on board the eagerly anticipated Episode 8 since it went into production, but we've heard nothing about who the Twin Peaks star is playing – and that doesn't look likely to change.

"It's hard in our house. 'Mom, you can at least tell us who you play?' I'd never put them in that position," she explained.

The only thing Dern will say is that she hopes her involvement in Star Wars will get her "a little more respect" with her kids. "I'm hoping when they see the movie, I'll get a little more. A point," she joked.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will begin where The Force Awakens left off with Rey's first meeting with Luke, with the first line being him asking her: "Who are you?".

Earlier this month, director Rian Johnson finally cleared up what the title means after speculation that 'The Last Jedi' could be a bit of a trick. But he stated it means "the final Jedi," with Episode 8 potentially heralding the end of the order.

Rogue One screenwriter Gary Whitta has also recently hinted that the Star Wars franchise will eventually move away from its classic characters.

"One of the things we really want to do at Lucasfilm is create a universe and not keep relying on old legacy characters," he explained.

"Whatever kind of Star Wars films they're making 10 or 20 years from now, I don't think they're going to be relying on the same legacy story elements as we have in the past."

Star Wars: The Last Jedi blasts into cinemas on December 15.
