Laura Whitmore was no stranger to the Love Island family when she began hosting it this year: her boyfriend Iain Stirling has provided the show’s witty commentary since it began. But working on the same project didn't mean they got to spend more time together – or any, in fact.

The presenter made her debut on the dating programme's first winter series in South Africa back in January, but she says she'll be seeing more of Stirling now that it's come to an end.

Speaking on White Wine Question Time with Kate Thornton, the 34-year-old disclosed: “We don’t see each other [on Love Island] – never see each other.

"We never did anything together because he's in the [voice-over] booth in production and I go in and out of the villa or I'd be hosting the live show, Aftersun, in London. I’d see him more when neither of us were working.”

Whitmore also sung the praises of her boyfriend of three years. But one of her favourite attributes about him may not be to everyone's tastes.

She shared: “He’s such a kind man and he’s smart... and hairy.”

Elaborating on her love of more hirsute gentlemen, Whitmore continued: "I got so excited this year on Love Island because Finn [Tapp], who won, has a hairy chest. They always wax their chest but that’s not really me. But Finn walked in and I was like: ‘Oh my God’. And Iain was like, ‘Why are you so obsessed?’. And I was like: ‘I just love a hairy chest’."

Whitmore admits she did have concerns when it came to cohabiting with Stirling, 32. Although they managed to make it work with a few home adjustments.

“I’m very independent; I couldn't be with someone all the time. [When we moved in together] I was worried," she divulged. "Like: 'Oh god, I live with someone and I’m going to have to see them all the time'.

“When we moved in together we kind of decreased the value of the house. Made a four-bedroom house into a two-bedroom house. He’s got his room, and I’ve got my room. So I've got my office space and he’s got his. Sometimes I'm like: Go to your room!”

They did get some quality time together after the ITV2 fixture came to an end as they both headed off on a South African safari trip for a much-needed break.

During winter Love Island’s live final, Whitmore confirmed the programme would be back on screens in the summer as usual as it returns to Mallorca once more.
