In case one-time actor and leader of the anti-woke Reclaim Party Laurence Fox is someone you consider to be an eligible bachelor, sorry - he’s now off the market. The new face of anti-woke announced his engagement to Arabella May Fleetwood Neagle in the Telegraph on Monday.
Fox - now better known for his divisive political social media rants, his failed bid to become Mayor of London and for being the leader of the right-wing populist Reclaim Party than playing DS James Hathaway in ITV detective series Lewis - confirmed the happy news on Twitter. He posted the paid-for newspaper announcement with the caption: “An announcement. She said yes,” and a red love-heart emoji. The brief advert read: “The announcement is announced between Laurence Paul Fox and Arabella May Fleetwood Neagle.”
Some presumed it was a joke, based on the fact it seemed unlikely the actor would make such a personal announcement in the mainstream media, given he doesn’t seem to like it very much. In the past, he has also insisted he would never date a woman under the age of 35 in fear of her being “too woke” for him. At 28, Fleetwood Neagle is some 15 years his junior - perhaps proving you can’t pick who you fall in love with.
Fox, 43, is said to have told friends he is the “luckiest man on earth.” And Fleetwood Neagle has been sporting a turtle-shaped engagement ring (yes really), or so reports The Mail.
Fox, who has two sons Winston, 13, and Eugene, nine, with his ex-wife of eight years Billie Piper, 39, is believed to have popped the question while the couple were enjoying a luxury break to Mexico over the festive period. The political campaigner posted a picture of him kissing a blonde woman whose face was concealed on New Year’s Eve, the first indication the public had that he was dating someone new. Fox was last romantically linked to photographer Sara McKinnon - with whom he spent at least the first lockdown of 2020 - but the pair reportedly separating last year.
So who is Fox’s mystery woman?
Fleetwood Neagle is a 28-year-old prep school teacher from north London, which is also where Fox resides. Unlike Fox, she has a limited social media presence and doesn’t appear to have an active Instagram, Twitter or Facebook profile. However, a private profile with no picture and a handful of followers with the handle @arabella__24 is followed by Fox on Instagram - but only recently.
It’s not known how the couple met, but it seems Fleetwood Neagle is an out and proud supporter of Fox’s politics. She was photographed next to her husband-to-be on his Mayor of London battle bus last year and took part in political marches with Fox, whose bid to convince Londoners to “Reclaim their Freedom” following months of lockdown measures failed to gain much traction. He secured 47,634 votes and finished in sixth place of the Mayoral race.
Her parents are Paul and Kathryn Fleetwood Neagle. According to Companies House, the couple used to run a business called My London Girl Ltd, which appears to have sold toys and dolls.
She is believed to have at least one sister, Lucinda, who is also a teacher, and a brother called Olivier. According to the Daily Mail, her sister recently posted a picture on Facebook of the family enjoying a meal. It is not known how the Fleetwood Neagles feel about their soon to be son-in-law’s outspoken nature.
You will remember that Fox, whose illustrious acting dynasty includes father James, sister Lydia (she’s married to comedian Richard Ayoade), brother Jack and cousin Emilia Fox, has caused several controversies in recent years. He was dropped by his agent in 2020 after he rowed with a black ethnicity lecturer on Question Time about the Duchess of Sussex . On the show, he said Rachel Boyle, an academic at Edge Hill University on Merseyside, was racist for calling him a “white privileged male” after he denied Meghan suffered racism while in the UK. Fox recently waded into the anti-vax row, suggesting he would remove his children from school if they were forced into the government’s Covid vaccination programme. “Every parent who loves their children should resist this insanity,” he said.
Good luck to the happy pair. We await details of the wedding...
