Sir Mo Farah, tennis star Roger Federer and Super Bowl champions the New England Patriots are among those shortlisted for covetable prizes at the prestigious 2018 Laureus World Sports Awards next month.

Federer's impressive return to form after a knee injury, which saw him win his fifth Australian Open and eighth Wimbledon title, earned him a nomination in both the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year and Laureus World Comeback of the Year categories.

In the Laureus World Team of the Year category, NFL champions New England Patriots were nominated after rising up from 28-3 to win 34-28 for their fifth Super Bowl victory under coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady.

Newly knighted Sir Mo Farah is also in contention for a prize after being named for the Laureus Sportsman of the Year after he took home 10,000m gold and 5,000 silver medals in the World Championships in London. His 10k win was his sixth world title.

Joining Farah and Federer in what is to be the most hotly contested category, is football star Cristiano Ronaldo, four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome, four-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton and French and US Open champion Rafael Nadal.
