Lava Flows Illuminate La Palma Overnight

Lava, ash, and gas erupted out of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on Wednesday, November 3, sparking lightning in the area.

The Canary Islands airline Binter said that flights were suspended due to the presence of ash in the air.

This video, taken on Wednesday evening, shows lava flows at the volcanic site on La Palma.

As of November 2, some 997.9 hectares (about 3.85 square miles) on the island had been claimed by lava, according to the European Union’s Copernicus satellite program. Credit: idafe.com via Storyful
