Lava Flows From Kilauea Volcano Eruption

Volcanic activity continued at Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano early on Friday morning, June 9, as seen in footage broadcast live online by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Eruptions began on June 7, with volcanic activity confined to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, according to the state’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA).

The USGS warned of potential hazards due to the eruption, including volcanic gas and smog which could negatively impact air quality.

Despite those hazards, visitors were flocking to the park to watch the eruption, according to park officials who advised people to visit in the evening to avoid long lines. Credit: USGS via Storyful
