Lava Glow From Kilauea Volcano Lights Up Sky

The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park shared footage on January 8 showing the lava glow from the Halemaʻumaʻu crater atop the Kilauea Volcano.

“A new day can bring a different perspective with it. This timelapse video of the lead up to sunrise shows how the lava glow that is visible from Halemaʻumaʻu in the darkness of night becomes nearly imperceptible as the sun comes up,” a Facebook post from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park said.

The volcano erupted on December 20. On January 8, USGS Volcanoes reported lava activity had been confined to the Halemaʻumaʻu crater, flowing from western vents down to the lava lake. Credit: Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park via Storyful
