Lava Shoots From Mount Etna During Dawn Eruption

Italy’s Mount Etna erupted in the early morning of Wednesday, May 19, spraying lava and ash into the Sicilian sky.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported that some Strombolian eruption activity along with ash emission was observed in the initial eruption. Activity later switched to a lava fountain, they said.

The activity of the lava fountain at the southeast crater finished in the late morning, the INGV said.
