Law & Order: Organized Crime season finale spoilers follow.

Law & Order: Organized Crime's second season came to an end this week, as part of an action packed Law & Order Thursday (May19) that saw the spin-off, the parent show, and Special Victims Unit all bring their current seasons to an end.

The junior show perhaps delivered the biggest bang, bringing to an end its season-long story with a major death.

The second season has been all about Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) going undercover deep in the criminal underworld, eventually ending up as a high-ranking member of the Brotherhood, led by Frank Donnelly (Denis Leary), an old friend from 20 years ago. Over the season, Donnelly has seen Stabler as his closest friend, making him leader of the Brotherhood and naming his son after him.

That all came crashing down in the finale, 'Friend or Foe', where Donnelly learned that Stabler was an undercover agent. After alerting the rest of the Brotherhood and trying to assassinate Stabler in an ambush, Donnelly escaped.

Stabler went to Donnelly's wife Bridget and planned to use her as bait to lure Donnelly out, and she retorted that, even though Stabler works for the authorities, he's no better than the criminals he's trying to take down.

Eventually, Stabler tracks down and confronts Donnelly, and the two talk about their oaths and their friendship. Donnelly tells Stabler "you broke my heart" as he steps onto some train tracks, with a speeding train heading his way.

Stabler tries to save his former friend and bring him to safety, but it's too late. Sure, a major crime leader may be dead, but Stabler feels personally responsible, and guilty over leaving a mother and child to fend for themselves. We're sure the impacts of the devastating event will haunt Stabler in the season to come.

Law & Order and its spin-offs air Thursdays on NBC in the US. The shows air on Sky Witness in the UK, with select episodes available on NOW.
