Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani insists Matteo Guendouzi is not for sale this summer after the midfielder was linked with Aston Villa.

The France international was of interest to Villa in January 2023 after Unai Emery was appointed head coach at Villa, before reports in Italy once again claimed he was on the Premier League club's radar ahead of the opening of this year's summer window.

Guendouzi remained at Marseille for the remainder of the 2022/23 season, but left for Lazio on an initial loan deal last summer. He then joined Lazio permanently for €13m plus another €5m in bonuses and a 10 per cent sell-on fee after certain clauses were met last season.

The 25-year-old made a total of 46 appearances for Lazio across all competitions last term, featuring in 33 Serie A matches and all eight of the Italian club's Champions League games.

After reports indicated that Guendouzi may angle for a move away from Lazio due to a soured relationship with his former Marseille boss Igor Tudor - who is now in place at Lazio - Fabiani has put on record the Italian club's stance.

“He is a Lazio player and will remain at Lazio," Fabiani said on Lazio Style Radio. "When we signed Tudor, he knew perfectly well that Guendouzi had become a fan favourite.

“It is not crossing our minds to dismantle the team and give away important players.”
