Labour candidate Kim Leadbeater has narrowly won the Batley and Spen by-election, after holding the seat by just 323 votes. Ms Leadbeater's victory allows Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer to breathe a sigh of relief as the party faced turmoil if the West Yorkshire seat was lost. Speaking after the win, Ms Leadbeater said: "It's a vote of confidence in the Labour Party, which is the Labour leader as well."
