Leamington Golf Club 'devastated' after thieves take iconic trophies
A golf club in Warwickshire was left 'devastated' after more than 40 trophies, some dating back more than 120 years, were stolen. Thieves smashed into Leamington and County Golf Club in Whitnash and took the contents of the club's trophy display cabinet.
Some smaller trophies were left on the ground as thieves dragged a bag behind them during their escape. Club manager, Bryan Frazer said all the trophies were either solid silver or plated, with the most prestigious, The Town Bowl, given to the club after it was founded in 1908.
Speaking to the BBC, Bryan said: "It was devastating to come in a see the trophies had gone and that's the same for all of the members who have won them. Many members can trace their family back, their fathers or grandfathers had won the trophies."

He said the thieves set the alarm off at the club on Saturday, September 21 at around 2:25am. Since thieves broke in, the club has informed auction houses, local antique dealers, and scrap metal dealers to warn them in case trophies are offered to them for selling.
Bryan added that the club would like the trophies back and had 'hope' they had not yet been sold off. "This is not unusual," he said. "I guess this happens to a club every month in this country. My advice to other golf clubs would be to not have their trophies on display."
Warwickshire Police has been contacted for comment.
