At least seven crashes in 24 hours on the Island's roads

THERE have been at least seven crashes on the Isle of Wight within the last 24 hours, including in Shanklin, Ryde, Newport and Chale.

Last night, a car collided with railings and a fence at Skew Bridge near Shanklin.

A section of Sandown Road was closed, which saw traffic having to turn around, reopening at 10.17pm.

​Around 12 hours later, at 10.15am, a lorry turned on its side on Calbourne Road.

Alongside police, Island Roads attended to close the road while the vehicle was recovered.

This afternoon, at 2.17pm, police received a report of a collision involving one vehicle on Carters Road in Ryde.

A Skoda collided with a telegraph pole, causing cables to fall onto the road.

Police confirmed that no one was injured in this incident.

Half an hour later, police were alerted to another road traffic incident in Chale.

A car left the road and collided with a hedge on Appleford Road, leaving a 19-year-old woman with minor injuries.

This evening, Rolls Hill Road, between Cowes and Thorness, has been closed following reports of a crash involving several vehicles.

In Newport, Southern Vectis reported a road traffic incident at the junction of Lugley Street and St James' Street.

The collision, which saw a taxi and a police car collide, meant motorists briefly diverted via Hunnycross Road while the road was cleared.

At around 6.20pm, a crash on Yarmouth Road, the main road linking Newport and Yarmouth, saw a Vauxhall end up on its roof.

The incident happened near Wight Stonemasonry, between Shalfleet and Newport.
