Tributes are pouring in from around the world for Liam Payne following the singer's tragic death in Argentina.

The 31-year-old reportedly fell from a third floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires just after 5pm local time on Wednesday - 8pm here in the UK. He had been holidaying with his partner Kate Cassidy, although she wasn't with him at the time of his death.

Liam, who, has a son, Bear, with Cheryl Cole, is understood to have fallen around 40ft into a courtyard below, and suffered 'extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death' according to emergency services in Buenos Aries, including a fractured skull.

Following news of the tragedy, fans flocked to the scene, lighting candles and leaving flowers for the star, who shot to fame n the X Factor in 2011 when Simon Cowell created One Direction from five people who had entered as soloists - Liam, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan.

They became one of the biggest boy bands in history, with five albums and four world tours, but entered an indefinite hiatus in 2016. They have all since embarked on solo careers, with Liam being spotted at Niall's concert in Buenos Aires this week.

Since news of the star's death broke late on Wednesday, tributes have flooded in from around the world.

Among them was one from X Factor host Dermot O'Leary, who wrote on Instagram: "I remember him as a 14-year-old turning up to audition on The X Factor, and blowing us away singing Sinatra. He just loved to sing. He was always a joy, had time for everyone, polite, grateful, and was always humble."

Olly Murs, who appeared on the show a year before One Direction, said he was "lost for words" . Max George from The Wanted also paid tribute, acknowledging how much Liam had supported him following the death of his bandmate Tom Parker in March 2022.

The X Factor's social media pages also carried a tribute: "We are heartbroken by the sad passing of Liam Payne. He was immensely talented and, as part of One Direction, Liam will leave a lasting legacy on the music industry and fans around the world.

"Our thoughts are with his friends, family and all who loved him."
