Lebanon's Prime Minister Saad Hariri Announces Intention to Resign

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri announced on October 29 his intention to offer his resignation to President Michel Aoun, in the face of protests from Lebanese citizens over his government’s policies.

Largely peaceful demonstrations continued for nearly two weeks in October, as protesters rallied across Lebanon’s historically sectarian lines to oppose what they saw as an ineffective and corrupt governing class.
