LED headlight owners urged to do these two things as a 'courtesy' to other road users
Drivers of cars with LED headlights are being asked to do two tasks to avoid "blinding" other motorists with the glare from their lights. It was announced last week that the headlights found on many newer models of cars were being investigated.
A petition on the House of Commons website has called for the very bright lights on cars to be removed, citing a recent RAC survey that found nine in 10 people say at least some headlights today are too bright.
And AA president Edmund King said he believes the piercing headlights are a major contributing factor in collisions on the roads. Motorists who are affected by the dazzling lights have been given advice on how best to deal with it the oncoming lights.

This includes slowing down, adjusting your rear view mirror and considering an anti-reflective coating on spectacles. Now owners of cars with these type of headlamps are being asked to make to two crucial checks as a "courtesy" to other road users.
On his YouTube channel, @DoctorEyeHealth explained that owners of these headlights can, firstly, speak to their mechanic about whether their headlights are in the correct position, or correctly aligned.
He said: "Otherwise your headlights may be tilted too far upwards, hitting people in the eyes or perhaps they're diverted in different directions and then that light may be going astray causing more problems for drivers too."
His second tip was to periodically clean the headlights of your car. He explained why this was important to do. He said: "Bug carcasses and things can hit on there and grease them up and light will scatter through those headlights causing more disabling glare for oncoming drivers."
He said these two actions were a "courtesy" and a kindness to fellow road users and that these tips would "improve the safety of others on the road because of your bright headlights".
The RAC has said it is increasingly receiving complaints about the issue and said the company now heard more complaints about headlights than potholes.
