It looks like it's not just fans who Blue star Lee Ryan has been impressing since joining EastEnders – but show legend June Brown too.

June, who plays one of the soap's longest-running characters Dot Branning, has been praising Lee for his role as barman Woody Woodward.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Lee said: "A lovely thing happened to me recently. The legend that is June Brown came up to me and said, 'Lee, I just want to let you know that you're an amazing actor'. Then she went on to give me some really great tips. Amazing!

"I still look around the Square and have a little giggle to myself and think, 'How did I get this?' I hope that I'm forever feeling that way, because sometimes it's a good way to step out, take a look and appreciate the madness for what it is."

Lee made his first appearance as Woody back in April, when he was sent to manage The Vic by Linda Carter – who was absent from Walford at the time.

Although Lee's stint on the show was initially meant to be temporary, his character was so well received by fans that he was eventually signed on a more permanent basis.

After taking a brief break, Woody later returned to the Square with Whitney Dean – with the pair announcing that they'd got engaged off screen.

"I think Woody loves Whitney, but deep down he's scared as well," Lee said when discussing their fast-paced relationship.

"He has issues with his dad dying at the age he is now, so I don't think he knows what he is doing. Woody's engagement to Whitney might have come as a result of him wanting to live his life to the full now."

EastEnders continues on Thursday, September 14 at 7.30pm on BBC One.
