Lee Ryan has revealed more about his new EastEnders character Woody – insisting that he's not a bad boy or a villain.
The Blue singer is about to make his Walford debut as bar manager Woody, who is sent to manage The Vic by absent landlady Linda Carter.
Little else is really known about Woody at this stage but it has been suggested that he will be carrying a rather sad backstory.
Elaborating more, Lee said to Inside Soap: "He's travelled around a little bit, and has quite a sad past with his family involving a bereavement, which we'll find out about later on.
"There's also the misconception that Woody's a bad boy, but he's not. He has a dark side in that he's a little bit manipulative, but he's no Phil Mitchell or Dirty Den."
Lee also teased that he has been sharing lots of scenes with Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) and Shirley Carter (Linda Henry), who will naturally be put out to see him take charge of The Vic.
"I've had quite a lot of scenes with Shona," he added. "She is an absolute darling and I adore her. I love Linda Henry too as there is a lot of tension between our characters.
"I think Shirley would quite like Woody to get lost! Lady Di likes me, though. I think she can see my aura!"
EastEnders airs Woody's first scenes on Tuesday, April 18 on BBC One.
