Police in Leeds have launched a murder probe after the bodies of a 10-year-old schoolboy and his mother were discovered in their home.

The body of the boy was discovered in a flat on Cross Ingram Road, Holbeck, last Thursday, by West Yorkshire Police.

The boy's mother, 30, was also found dead in their home.

Neighbours assumed the mother and son, whose identities have not yet been revealed, had gone to their home country of Portugal, where they would often visit, but as weeks passed they became "worried" and raised the alarm.

The house was cordoned off after police arrived on Thursday.
