Leeds Royal Armouries curator speak out after 'Gen Z' TikTok video gets 7m views
The Leeds Royal Armouries Museum elderly curator behind the smash success 7.1m viral video which follows a 'Gen Z' script has spoken out.
“Enjoy a GOATed day out,” “slay!” and “pop off queen” are some of the TikTok phrases guns expert Mark Murray-Flutter reeled off in the 57 second marketing video released on the social media platform, while he ambles around the exhibitions in his tweed suit and spectacles.
The Royal Armouries released the video on Friday, September 13, with the title ‘letting gen z write the marketing script’ with Mark ‘serving curatorial realness’. The video was written by the Royal Armouries' communications officer Katie Glover who descibes herself as Gen Z - with help by a colleague Josh.

Mark, 65, has said he'd be willing to do more videos following the 'Gen Z script' and spoke about the reactions from his nieces and nephews who'd seen the TikTok sensation.
Mark said: "The response has been totally unexpected but very pleasing. Of course, I’m happy to do more. I didn’t understand the script at first, but eventually once I understood what the phraseology referred to I got into it. Understanding this new language that Gen Z are now using helped me get to grips with the script, in fact I rather enjoyed delivering the short punchy lines – all very slay.
"I was rather taken with the phrase ‘pop off queen’ it made me chuckle, I even understood it’s reference when it was said in a film I saw over the weekend and I cannot help myself from using a few phrases today.
"I do feel though that I can now at least begin to understand Gen Z. In fact my nieces and nephews (18-40) told me they had seen it and loved it. Even my sisters who are all Gen X had seen it. I, of course, am a boomer."
Comms officer Katie added: "The reaction has been unexpected but brilliant, particularly seeing the enthusiasm from people keen to visit the museum after seeing the video. Inspiring an interest in history and our collection with new audiences is always great to see."
