Leeds United have paid an emotional tribute at Elland Road to a young fan following his tragic death.

Jayden Bamford, 10, sadly passed away last month. This followed a brave battle with acute myeloid leukemia.

During Sunday afternoon’s Yorkshire derby with Sheffield Wednesday, fans of both clubs came together for a minute’s applause to honour the youngster. During ITV’s coverage of the Championship match, commentator Sam Matterface said: “That minute’s applause being perfectly adhered to by both sets of supporters.”

He added: “It is an emotional occasion for everyone at Leeds United. Our thoughts are with the family.”

Ahead of Sunday’s match, Jayden’s close family members were invited to Elland Road for the emotional occasion. Before his death, Leeds United had the honour of showing Jayden and his family around the Thorp Arch training ground.

There, he met with manager Daniel Farke, and his coaching staff, alongside players Willy Gnonto, Dan James, Jayden Bogle and Patrick Bamford.

"Even during the most heartbreaking times, Jayden’s courage, glowing smile and infectious personality was on show," a Leeds United spokesperson said. "RIP Jayden, you will never be forgotten."
