It was a move Leeds United supporters will not look back on with any fondness, the 2023 January transfer window arrival of Weston McKennie. Arriving from Juventus, there had been initial optimism the USA international would be a big hit under then manager Jesse Marsch.

His compatriot soon departed and in truth, things were no better for McKennie in the months that followed before his summer exit. Substituted off in his final appearance for Leeds as the Whites were heading for relegation, the chants from all four corners of the ground summed up the feeling towards a player who never managed to find anything like the form that made Juventus bring him to Serie A.

That hasn't been the case the past 12 months, with the 25-year-old midfielder becoming a key player for Juve having re-established himself as a starting midfielder and helping the club win the Coppqa Italia final. While that may be the case Juventus are willing to let him go this summer and are proposing a swap deal with Aston Villa for 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz.

According to Italian website calciomercato Juventus are keen to land Luiz and are ready to send the Villains McKennie in return, giving the American a second chance to impress in the Premier League. Arsenal have also targetted Luiz, which could scupper the deal for Juventus, but if the Italian club can beat them to the signature, expect to see McKennie back in English football next season.
