Leeds United are 'guaranteed' to make major January transfer window signing

Expect Leeds United to make a top signing in the January transfer window. That is the opinion of former Scotland international Frank McAvennie as the Whites bid to secure promotion to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

United remain unbeaten in the Championship, having taken eight points from their opening four matches. Their positive start has lifted some of the doom and gloom following the sales of star men Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter.

A late splurge saw boss Daniel Farke add four players to their ranks in the final eight days of the summer market. Nonetheless, the Whites still have one of the smallest squads in the division.

And McAvennie has expressed his concern over United's lack of strength in depth. He told Football Insider: "They’ve got a good 11, 12, 13 players. When you go outside that if people get injured, at the moment, everyone is happy everyone is playing and they all want to get back to the Premier League.

“That’s great if they can keep these players fit, if you can stop them from getting injured. The manager is a clever guy, he’ll have everyone working and the boys that come in will just have to do a job until January. I guarantee they’ll buy someone in January.

“But yeah, I’ve got a soft spot for them so I want them to go up, but that won’t happen without getting beat that’s for certain. They’re doing alright at the moment, they’ll be taking it cautiously, one game at a time, the usual football nonsense.”
