Jeremy Sarmiento has mocked Leeds United after playing in Burnley’s 1-0 victory at Elland Road on Saturday.

The winger, 22, is currently on loan at the Lancashire side from Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion - he impressed in the Championship last season when he helped Ipswich Town to promotion.

The Ecuador international replaced goal scorer Luca Koleosho on 64 minutes but it was his post-match antics that really raised a few eye brows. At 09:41 pm last night as Burnley fans were no doubt celebrating the victory while Leeds’ supporters were picking apart what went wrong, Sarmiento could not help but stick the boot into the Whites with a cheeky post on X that appeared to show an in-action photograph of him captions: “Putting the L in Elland Road.”

It must be said that the account is not verified by the social media platform but it’s professional layout and 60,100 followers suggest it could indeed by the 22-year-old. This fits a recent trend of footballers posting more ‘jovial’ content rather than the overly safe and managed personal relations social media posts of the past.

Former Brentford, Brighton, and Everton forward Neal Maupay is regularly seen posting humorous ‘memes’ and videos breaking the mold usually associated with footballers.

Social media is now part of a player’s personal branding and can drive revenue and sponsorship deals away from the pitch. Despite the Elland Road faithful letting him know their thoughts in the comments section there was no denying it will have boosted Sarmiento’s profile; currently sporting one million views in 12 hours.
