Leeds United squad revealed for Championship play-off final with Southampton as two miss out

The time for talking is nearly over. A place in the Premier League will be on the line this afternoon as Leeds United face off against Southampton at Wembley.

Whites manager Daniel Farke is bidding to become the third boss to win promotion to the Premier League three times after Steve Bruce (4) and Neil Warnock (3), following his two title winning seasons with Norwich City in 2018/19 and 2020/21. Standing in his and United's way of reaching the promised land are the Saints, who have already beaten them twice this season.

"Southampton are one of the best sides in the Championship," conceded Farke. "They've got experienced players and a classy coach. The club is not nervous. It's difficult to beat them. This was proven in the first two games."

Striker Patrick Bamford will play no part in the showpiece final, having failed to recover from a knee injury sustained at Middlesbrough last month. Farke told the media at his pre-match press conference: “Patrick is not available and won’t be there for the game. He will definitely miss out."

Versatile defender Sam Byram is set to return to the matchday squad. He resumed full training on Thursday. “We had some other minor issues this week, but it seems every player will be available, including (Sam) Byram," said Farke, who has been unable to call upon Pascal Struijk since December through injury.

United are bidding to make it sixth time lucky to win promotion via the play-offs. It is their first trip to the national stadium in 16 years.
