Communication and supporter input is vital in Leeds United's plans to redevelop Elland Road according to one fan group keen to see a ‘White Wall’ included. Earlier this week, the Whites published a statement with further ambitions for what the stadium’s redevelopment will entail, including a capacity beyond 53,000 seats.

There were neither dates nor drawings included in the announcement and Leeds United Supporters Club has asked the club to ensure fans are kept in the loop as this vision takes shape. LUSC wrote to chief executive Angus Kinnear in June 2021 with 70 proposals for any future regeneration, including the Don Revie Stand as the biggest kop in the country.

Inspired by Borussia Dortmund’s ‘Yellow Wall’, LUSC would like to see Elland Road’s North Stand become a ‘White Wall’. It remains to be seen how United hope to increase that stand’s capacity within these plans.

“Leeds United Supporters Club welcomes the news ground redevelopment is back on the agenda,” a statement to LeedsLive said. “We were informed 18 months ago of these proposals and endorsed them enthusiastically, proposing the concept of a ‘White Wall’ in the Revie Stand.”

LUSC also praised the attention the club has given to improving the travel plans around matches in LS11, especially as an already crowded area has to deal with nearly 20,000 more people.

An LUSC spokesman said: “An increase in an extra 15,000-plus seats will ensure more fans will be able to attend games on a regular basis. It is especially important to see the club is ‘looking closely at matchday travel plans to ensure an improvement in the experience for both residents and supporters arriving at the ground.’

“So many times this seems to get overlooked and not work. We also feel it is important the club shares information and seeks input from fans at all stages of the redevelopment process.”

United have not given any indication when the next update on the plans will be published. In May, chairman Paraag Marathe said he hoped they would be able to break ground in May 2025, if they wanted to push the button on the plan at that point.
