Leeds United are awaiting the results of a scan on Ilia Gruev's injury after the Bulgarian midfielder limped out of Tuesday night's draw at Norwich City.

With Ethan Ampadu facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, manager Daniel Farke could do without losing Gruev from the engine room. However, while he revealed that the midfielder's injury looked a little better this morning that it did last night, he admitted it was too early to confirm the extent of any absence.

Farke is not expecting to have any of his injured players back available for Friday night's trip to the Stadium of Light to face high-flying Sunderland, with Manor Solomon, Max Wober, Dan James and Ampadu currenrtly ruled out.

"We are still awaiting for further assessment, as it stands it looks a bit better but we have to wait for the scan," Farke said in his pre-match media briefing.

"Nobody else is ruled out from the game yesterday. I don't expect anyone to come back, perhaps Isaac Schmidt as looks a bit better so we will try tomorrow in our last training session, we will try with him tomorrow.

"Manor Solomon is progressing We had hoped he would train today but that wasn't possible, so it's unlikely for the game Friday, we will have to go with what we have got."

The Whites head to the Stadium of Light to face a Black Cats side so far unbeaten on home soil and fresh from a 2-0 win over Championship new boys Derby County.
