Leeds United's former £27m forward faces long injury lay-off after undergoing finger surgery
Ex-Leeds United star Rodrigo Moreno faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing finger surgery. The forward suffered the injury on his debut for Qatari side Al-Gharafa earlier this month.
A statement from the Al-Gharafa read: "Spanish player Rodrigo underwent a successful surgery on his fifth finger bone at Aspetar Hospital. He was visited to check on his condition by Mr Rashid bin Issa Al-Dosari, the club’s CEO, Eid Al-Mulla, the media and administrative coordinator, Fahd Ali, and the team’s doctor, Murad Maqrani. They conveyed everyone’s greetings and wishes for his recovery and safe return to join the team.
"It is worth noting that Rodrigo suffered this injury in the match against Al-Shamal in the fourth round of the Ooredoo League, and as a result he left the match and the player will be absent from training for three months. The official website wishes the player a full recovery and a return to the stadiums again.”

Rodrigo left United following their relegation to the Championship in the summer of 2023, ending his three-year association with the West Yorkshire club. The 33-year-old made 97 appearances for the Whites following his reported £27m move from La Liga side Valencia. He was a bright spark in their ill-fated 2022/23 campaign.
Rodrigo went on to join Al-Rayyan, hitting 12 goals in 23 outings for the Qatari side. The Spaniard spoke glowingly of his time at United in his farewell message.
His temporary departure from Al-Rayyan was confirmed earlier this month. He penned a loan deal with Al-Gharafa that runs until the end of the Qatar Stars League campaign. Rodrigo made an instant impact on his debut, weighing in with an assist.
