The legal ''e-joint' is to go on sale shortly in the UK

An e-cigarette made from marijuana leaves will go on sale in Britain next week - and its makers believe the KanaVape is entirely legal in the UK.

Looking similar to a 'normal' e-cigarette, the Kanavape contains an E-liquid made with extracts of hemp, which its makers claim will offer a 'legal and tasteful' way to enjoy the herb.

It is thought to be legal in the UK, as the E-liquid contains no THC - the active ingredient in marijuana, responsible for users feeling 'stoned'.

Instead, its makers claim the active ingredient is another, similar chemical found naturally in cannabis, called cannabidiol or CBD.

Its makers claim it offers a 'relaxed' feeling - but other drug experts are more dubious.

'This product does not have any psychoactive or euphoric effect,' its makers warn in a disclaimer on the Kanavape site.

In an interview with Metro, Sophie Macken of the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs, said: ‘CBD is legal and has some therapeutic and neuroprotective properties.

‘It is not usually something that would be used recreationally though so this sounds like a bit of a gimmick.

The 'legal joint' is made by a French company and sold via the internet.

Makers Antonin Cohen and Sebastien Breguerie said: 'We made KanaVape to give millions of people a legal and tasteful way of using cannabinoids.

The Home Office has not ruled on the legal status of the product, but other THC-free hemp extracts are used in cothing and health-food products, so it is thought to be likely to be legal.
