Legionella bacteria has been found at Police Scotland’s training headquarters for a second time.

The pathogen is believed to have been found at the 'water supply' of the accommodation block today, Thursday, September 19, and 55 staff members who live at the site have been moved to other quarters. Further inspection is expected in the coming days but for now the college remains open.

The first outbreak in 2022 led to the college in Kincardine, Fife, being shut for two months after the bacteria was found within five shower heads in the Dunvegan accommodation complex during routine testing.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “On Thursday, 19 September, 2024, routine testing detected traces of legionella in the water supply of an accommodation block at the Scottish Police College, Tulliallan.

“The safety and wellbeing of our people is a priority and contingency plans are being put in place as a precaution.

"Headquarters remains open and training will continue on site while the issue is resolved."
