Leicester City team news vs Tottenham as Steve Cooper makes Vardy and Buonanotte calls
Jamie Vardy starts for Leicester City in their Premier League opener against Tottenham after making a shock recovery from his pre-season injury.
Vardy has not played for nearly a month since he was substituted in the club’s first pre-season friendly against Villarreal. But despite such limited game-time over the summer, he’s in the first 11 of the Steve Cooper era.
Facundo Buonanotte also comes straight into the side and will play in the number 10 role behind him, while Bobby De Cordova-Reid makes his debut for the club on the left wing. It means Stephy Mavididi is only among the substitutes.

At the back, last season’s partnership of Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard have been selected, with Caleb Okoli only on the bench. At full-back, James Justin and Victor Kristiansen are selected, the latter making his first appearance for the club in more than a year, with Ricardo Pereira among the substitutes.
Wilfred Ndidi, having played in attacking midfield in the final pre-season friendly at Lens last weekend, joins Harry Winks in the deeper role. The team is completed by Mads Hermansen in goal and Abdul Fatawu on the right wing.
On the bench, there is no place for Will Alves, despite the youngster spending all of pre-season in the first team. Boubakary Soumare, Tom Cannon, and Kasey McAteer are all available for Cooper to choose from.
City (4-2-3-1): Hermansen; Justin, Vestergaard, Faes, Kristiansen; Ndidi, Winks; Fatawu, Buonanotte, De Cordova-Reid; Vardy. Subs: Ward, Ricardo, Okoli, Nelson, Choudhury, Soumare, McAteer, Mavididi, Cannon.
