Leicester drivers to be hit by weeks of closures along ‘busy’ city road
A “busy” city road will be hit by a series of road closures in the coming weeks. Work to resurface Bennion Road, in Beaumont Leys, will begin on Friday (November 8).
The repairs will be carried out in phases in a bid to “minimise disruption” for drivers, Leicester City Council said. The first round will see the route shut between its junctions with Anstey Lane and Orwell Drive.
The closure is expected to be in place for up to five days. Work will then move further along the road from Wednesday, November 13.

Again this will require it to be shut to drivers, this time from Orwell Drive to the Beaumont Way/Boston Road roundabout. The roundabout itself will not be included in the closure. This phase is again expected to take five days.
Round three of the works will begin on Monday, November 18. This will require overnight road closures on the Beaumont Way/Boston Road roundabout. Drivers will not be able to pass between 8pm and 6am for up to three nights. However, the roundabout will remain open during the day.
The final phase of resurfacing will then take place on Rutherford Road, between its junctions with Orwell Road and Beaumont Way, from Thursday, November 21. Again, overnight closures are planned, and are expected to be in place for three nights.
Last year, the council carried out a series of works on Bennion Road to create new cycle lanes, crossings and wider footpaths. A council spokesperson said: “This latest round of highway improvements will further improve this important route for all road users. Every effort has been made to minimise disruption to traffic while works are carried out.”
