Leicester Half Marathon will go ahead amid late flooding fears
The Leicester Half Marathon will take place tomorrow (Sunday, October 13) as planned, despite earlier concerns about flooding on the route. Run Leicester confirmed the good news for all entrants on Saturday afternoon (October 12) after assessing the previously waterlogged course.
"We're pleased to say that we've assessed the route today and can confirm that the Half Marathon will go ahead as planned tomorrow," organisers said in a statement. They added that the route is now clear and they believe it will remain so for race day.
Earlier on Saturday, crews from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service tackled floodwaters that threatened the event. Firefighters were seen pumping water from a flooded bridge at Watermead Park, a key section of the race route.

Crews from Birstall Fire Station helped to clear standing water from the bridge near King Lear's Lake. They had earlier expressed hope that their work would prevent the race from being canceled.
Sports reporter Josh Holland, who is participating in the run, visited the area to assess the situation. He reported that the floodwaters had indeed receded.
The half-marathon is set to begin at Victoria Park at 9.15am on Sunday (October 13). Runners will pass through the city centre, Thurmaston and Birstall before returning to the start point, with key areas along the route including London Road, St George's Way, and Melton Road.
Run Leicester thanked participants for their patience throughout the uncertainty. They said: "We're sure tomorrow will be an incredible race day and we look forward to welcoming you all in the morning."
Leicester City Council has warned motorists to expect road closures and parking restrictions on Sunday to ensure runners' safety. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel.
