Harvey Barnes is set to be offered a lucrative new deal by Leicester after earning his first call-up to the England squad.

Barnes has made an excellent start to the season under Brendan Rodgers and negotiations over an improved contract have been scheduled after the transfer window closes.

Leicester are now expected to accelerate those talks after the 22 year old winger was named in Gareth Southgate's squad for the forthcoming games against Wales, Belgium and Denmark.

Barnes signed a five-year deal in June last year but has since emerged as a key player under Rodgers, impressing Southgate in the stunning 5-2 win over Manchester City last Sunday.

Southgate said on Thursday: "He has had a good couple of years, he scored a lot of goals [on loan] at West Brom, he is now starting to take that into the Premier League.

"He is a different sort of wide player, very direct, very impressive and counter-attacking.

"Some of these boys we might not have been looking at if we had two fixtures but this is a bit different, and this is a chance for them to work with us and a chance for us to get to know them a bit better."

Barnes has scored one goal and contributed one assist so far this season from three Premier League appearances.

Leicester are poised to complete the £30million signing of Saint-Etienne defender Wesley Fofana in the next 48 hours.

Fofana, 19, underwent a medical in Germany on Wednesday and is expected to fly into England to put the finishing touches to his move later before the weekend.

The teenager is set to sign a five-year deal to end Brendan Rodgers's lengthy pursuit of a new centre-half, following the sale of Harry Maguire to Manchester United last year.

Burnley rejected a bid of around £30million for James Tarkowski last Friday, with Leicester then focusing all their attention on persuading Saint-Etienne to agree a fee on Fofana.

It is understood the initial price is £30million, which will rise on achievable add-ons.

Rodgers has already signed Timothy Castagne from Atalanta for £18million and Roma winger Cengiz Under on loan for the season.
